How should steam traps be installed?

2022-07-29
General Requirements for Trap Installation

1. Purge and clean the pipeline with steam or compressed air before installing the trap. All filters should be cleaned after purging. For the lever float type trap, the lever float assembly needs to be released before installation. Other types of traps are also The trap should be installed after inspection and treatment according to the requirements of the product manual.

2. When the amount of condensed water exceeds the maximum displacement of a single trap, the same type of traps can be installed in parallel and symmetrically. Do not install multiple traps in series or parallel traps of different types and sizes.

3. Multiple steam equipments are not allowed to share a trap to prevent short circuit.

4. If the trap is in stock for more than half a year or has doubts about its quality, it must be disassembled and cleaned before installation, especially to remove rust and dirt on the sealing surface. If necessary, the sealing surface should be re-ground, and the steam action test should be carried out, and it can be used only after passing the test.

5. For the threaded trap, a union should be installed on its connecting pipe to facilitate maintenance and disassembly.

6. Install the trap correctly according to the flow direction indicated by the arrow on the trap body and the allowable installation orientation.

7.Traps on the middle surface should be installed in a place where it is easy to be repaired and arranged as centrally as possible to facilitate management.

Special requirements for installation of various types of traps

1. The installation position of the thermodynamic disc trap can be installed horizontally or vertically.

2. Thermodynamic pulse traps are generally installed on horizontal pipes with the valve cover facing upwards.

3. Mechanical float traps must be installed horizontally or vertically according to their structural requirements. The piping design should not affect the removal of the valve cover and pipe plug. When it is not used for a long time, the condensed water should be discharged in time, and the front and rear valves of the trap should be closed. Antifreeze measures should be taken for installation outdoors.

4. The installation position of the thermostatic bimetallic sheet (thermostatic type) trap can be installed horizontally or vertically. The trap itself does not require insulation.

5. The bell float type (inverted bucket) trap must be installed horizontally or vertically according to its structural requirements or vertical installation. Fill water or open the trap inlet valve before starting, and open the trap outlet valve after the condensate is full. When it is not used for a long time, the condensed water should be discharged in time, and the front and rear valves of the trap should be closed. Antifreeze measures should be taken for installation outdoors.
